My two cents. I'd clear my schedule for Monday and make it my mission to get in and see either my regular doctor, or preferably the best hand ortho around. The infection is a big worry and it seems possible if not likely that nail severed a tendon or left bone fragments that could later sever the tendon. Now's the time to think long term.

I think I have to hire another guy and just supervise for a while from the looks of things.
Kinda got me thinking of how I'd use my time on-site: Do time studies, Organize tool caddies, sit there and read a book? Bring a laptop and try to work on paperwork?

What type of gun was it coil or stick? I would hate to image trying to get a ring shank coil nail out of bone with that little barb of wire still attached.

Ouch !!

What nobody on your site had a cats paw?
Seriously though, make sure you follow up on that. I had a staph infection a couple of years ago, and it felt like death. At least go to your family doctor and have him look it over.

Those things happen; however they should happen less frequently once you hit 35

I put a finish nail through the tip of my middle finger, first knuckle then out the side. It hurt for ten years, and hasn't bothered me for the last ten.

Best of luck healing up! Get a copy of the x-ray framed for your office wall.

Its gonna be sore for a few days but you already know that now. I've had my share of nail gun accidents. Put a ring shank 2 3/8 directly in my thigh trying to clear a jammed nail when I dropped the gun and caught it by the trigger. Yeah, stupid I know. Taught me a lesson about working on a gun plugged in to the compressor though.

Turpentine will take the soreness out. Ice will help with the swelling. A shot of Beam will knock the edge off of that throbbing.

Good luck.

I read this thread and was really disappointed that you left the job site and went to the hospital without finishing the project.

How old are you?
Plus he cut what was prolly the last 16' 2x6 so he could get to a maintenance man at the hospital to clip the head and pull it out.

Now his bro has to run to the yard and buy another and hang it himself.

He might wanna buy a pair of side cutters while he is there.

Relax, we are just trying to make you smile. I hope you have a speedy and full recovery.

I feel your pain. Crushed the first joint of my index finger in a press about 18 yrs ago. 2 pins and 27 stitches later it's still intact and usable. My finger looked like road kill. I had a great hand specialist.

Take good care of that hand of yours. You only have two. Fight the urge to over use it. Those internal wounds take a while to heal.
