It is a better, safer practice for new guys to learn bottom to top so can remember to remove there hand. Over time if they wanna switch it up then by all means. You just don't want a new kid learning how to respect to nailer the hard way. I would side with your instructor on this.

just check your local code. I also frame on a production crew and we follow code for our area. and our GCs still complain that we use "too many nails" like there is such a thing. they're just cheap and wanna save $

no. we give a labor price on the whole job based on square footage. the GCs source and supply the material. standard practice here. I guess framers supply material in Canada? weird.

We supply nails, and depending on contract for anything else. I have done supply and install on some jobs.
