For the most part i have been pleased with my 2017 Ford Transit which i bought new. It now has 30000 miles on it and today it went in for an oil change at the local dealership.
The Service manager calls me "your van needs rear brakes". I wasn't surprised and i knew they went through rear brakes first. She then explains they will have to order parts including rear seals as they have to remove the rear axle in order to replace the rear rotors. So I ask how much all of this would cost.
$660! then to make it not sound so bad after i grumble about how ridiculous it is to have to remove the axle, she says "the pads come with a lifetime warranty". What good is that if i have to go through all of this each time.
So new rear brakes and rotors at 30000 miles and at $660.
I will be changing out the pads at 15000 miles regardless of wear to see if i can make the rotors last longer, probably won't though and i will just spend more in the long run.
At the dealership when i picked up my van she told me all Ford vehicles wear out rear brakes first as the pads are so thin. My 2013 Chevy 3/4 ton has 65000 miles and still has plenty of life on the original pads, so i am not hard on them.
Grumble over.
