I have a finished off basement and we went back and forth on what to do with the floor. Laminate or carpet. Although it's a very dry basement, plumbing disasters are possible.
While we were finishing the basement the expansion tank fitting failed and we had 3"-4" of water on the floor before we discovered it and shut it down.
That's when we decided to stain it.
Our basement flooded a couple times and we had put tile down there. The tile section that popped after the flood was the stuff with the pre-mixed adhesive.... I think. I think it was the adhesive Bill mixed that was fine after it all dried up. If you get around to the tile remind me to ask him which one went through the flood well.
These people have a huge paved driveway that pretty much runs a river towards the foundation (in heavy rain) so they didn't want to risk it.
