Hi everyone, I have a fireplace install coming up with an open fire pit. Anyone have any hints or comments?

Found out a bit more today. They want to use a 24 x 24 tile over cbu. I think it's going to a) be ugly as hell and b) crack with the first fire. I'm presuming that the tiles will be a porcelain, but I'm not sure. Some of the tile will extrude into the firebox and I doubt these tiles are rated for that use. To be honest, I'm going to try to avoid this job, I foresee nothing but problems with it.

Yeah, I'd not know enough about building one to not turn it over to a mason.

Astor, those look cool. I've always liked the SW style of ovens. I could figure out how to build one of those, but only for me as a stand alone item....in the yard, away from everything.

You need to add to cart.. it is free..

The Pompeii Oven is a set of free, downloadable plans that describe how to build a traditional Italian brick pizza oven. The oven is constructed using firebricks, high temp mortar, insulation, along with other materials easily found at building supply stores (Home Depot, Lowe's, B&Q, etc.). It's a great oven, and a great project.
