Hello all,

I have a pending Fire Alarm install in a commercial building.
I will need to use a Fire Block around wall penetrations.

Anyone have a recommendation for what is to be used or not used
in this kind of application??

Thanks for any input.

Depends on the application, you have to find an approved product for the situation. If it's a plastic pipe then FSONE if it's less than 25 wires use CP606 because it's way cheaper.

Correct me if I am wrong, but, the Hilti requires a special adapter
device to fit the can??
Wrong, you are now corrected.

Hilti does have "caulk guns" that are specific to their product which is in a foil wrap, affectionately called "sausage tubes". You'll know why if you see them.
Sausages are used by many manufacturers.

I interpret his question as "can you use a regular caulking gun", my interpretation could be wrong.

I'm so used to the sausages I forgot . Having checked their site the FS one comes in tubes & sausages.

Unrelated. The Great Stuff Firestopping isn't rated for commercial use.
Not unrelated -- Great Stuff is off my radar.

As for the Hilti I 'assume' that the sausages
require a specific tool that needs to be used for application.

However it appears that the tubes just need a
Plain Jane caulking gun. Is that correct??

The next question is product sourcing.
I will have to check with my local distributors to see who
handles the Hilti CP 606 in tubes.

The other thing that I can't seem to find is the ratio of 1 tube that
holds 1.25 cups of material to what expansion quantity??

Trying to get a grasp on how much coverage will one tube handle.
I know that is going to depend on a multitude of variables.
But, as to expansion ratio is it 1:1, 1:2 or something else??

Or does just come down to keep buying until all gaps are filled??
I hope it is not that crude. Really there should be some kind of
gauge of some kind. I looked over as many Data Pages that
I can, but that does not seem to listed anywhere.
Something like 1 tube will deliver a 1/4" bead 10' long would be
helpful. Any thoughts??

Sorry for any stupid questions, but then I heard that there
are never any stupid questions ;);)

Thanks in advance and have a good rest of the weekend.

It doesn't expand, it's just caulking, some is acrylic, some is silicone, some is intumescent and expands when it gets hot.

Sausages need a sausage gun, go buy one they are 75 bucks but it's cheaper in the end than caulking tubes.

Buy a case of sausages and see how far ya get.

Inner,

I don't have that much to do. A case of sausages would be overkill.

Thanks for the extra input.
