Feels like drowning

So i have started my new job in the Civil Engineering Sq. Its cool and I am excited. I am working over in the plans section, so we creat the project packages and manage the projects as they go on, a cradle to grave type setup.

I have three projects that i am working on. A fire escape stairway, refacading a building, and a parking lot pavement job. At face value they seem to be no big deal right. Well the fire escape stairway requirements blew up and now we have to bring to some mezzanines up to fire code as well, which once we do that there will be no hvac in those rooms, so we will have to fix that and probobly add electrical.

The refacading of the building sounds like no big deal, but after looking over the project, we have to add motorized vent fans and add bathrooms to the place. I haven't looked at the pavement job yet. Hopefully that won't have a tone of stuff involved with it.

Just feeling very overwhelmed and very unprepaired. :sad: I have no idea how I am supose to go about doing my job, and can't really seem to get any direction from anybody. Pluss i haven't been to my formal training yet. I know I will get it, in due time but I don't want to wait around for that.

Hang in the Higgs. If your working in the same office with other CE's, they're probably not helping because there hung over LOL LOL.

I've got a 2 year Civil Tech degree from a small Community college from Troy NY (HVCC). Got a hair in my azz while in my mid 30's and went back to school. I didn't have the math aptitude for a PE. Spent a year and a half with a bridge building company early 2000. Those engineers could drink brother. At least the Civils anyway.

They would'nt have hired you if they didn't think you could do the job.
Try to relax and get to know everybody to get a little more comfortable.
In time you get to know how things work where you are and you fit right in.

These are the corporate trends of today (for office working environment) especially engineers & technical/computer field:

1. Lay-off, buy-out, or early retire the OLD workers (experienced, HIGH SALARY, manager ranks, and/or have worked over 20-30+ years and 50-60+ old age?);

2. Hire YOUNG workers (20 to below 40+ age) or fresh out of college, train them quickly and push them working hard 24/7 with LOWER PAY (to save costs + increased HEALTH BENEFITS? + RETIREMENT ACCUMULATIONS?)

3. If the OLDs complain, find way to fire them (because the youngsters are waiting to replace them at whatever salary offered?);

4. If the YOUNGs complain, find way to get rid of them too, since there are also PLENTY of other hungry young fishes in the pond/pool to catch (or still waiting in line at unemployemnet offices with hundreds of resumes, etc.)?

In the end, ONLY top executives grabs BIG/HEFTY bonuses while ... low-rank workers suffer the most.

When the GOING get tough, the TOUGH gets going!! ..(welcome ya all to 21st century work standards) :shutup:

its really nice. it really nice to be with my wife. my SQ rocks but i will say i have never worked with so many civilians in my time in the AF

SQ is squadron

no actually the civilians here all seem to be pretty steller. at my last unit and when i was deployed most of them sabatoged everything we were doing. that really sucked.

either side.

well thats because its the corp and they have become pretty much useless. we have contracted the corp to do some work for us and it has been the bigest pain on the face of the planet. pluss they rairly do QA before they have a building turned over to the customer.
