We have an existing deck that is 10' 1/2” x 6' 1/2". We are extending out the 6' 1/2" portion by another 6' 1/2" and leaving the 10' 1/2" width.

We have the sonotubes placed.

My question is how to splice the new 6’ 1/2" rim/end joist to the old? Can I just use the existing post and take a little off both the existing 2x8 rim joist and the doubled 2x6 end joist to allow for support of the new 2x8?

I'm probably not describing this well, hopefully pics help a little bit.
