i have a client who wants to convert attached garage to living space . he has a panel in the garage . can he leave it the or does it have to be moved ? outside denver. im getting conflicting info
There's nothing in the NEC that prohibits you from having a service panel in your bedroom or any other living space. However, there are other considerations, such as required clearances and so forth.
No water in same room, 30" wide 36" deep space in front of panel, does not need to be centered, 78" of vertical clearance from floor. No stairways or closets.....
A garage panel is adequate for a decent mother in law unit????? Gas heat, stove? no AC loads in summertime
Less then 25 year old? no aluminum circuit wiring?
As long as you meet the working space requirements you will be code compliant.
The only (residential) room specificity listed as prohibited in the NEC is a bathroom. Then you need to look up the definition of a bathroom....
