We're thinking about taking on employees instead of just subbing out. Any Helpful info?

Pay them by the hour with a decent production bonus.

Don't get sucked into paying them by the hour plus per board, your waste will go way up just so they can get the board count up.

Also do not hire smokers, I will not pay a guy to smoke and I do not allow my subs to even smoke on the property.

pay them contract rate by the hour....you dont have to worry about tax etc...they do...and offer a bounus and wage incentive.
for instance..
if they average 3000 bft day, for a month give them a bit extra... but if they dont hit the targets then they dont get the raise...pay the a bit more per hour...but keep in mind that you have to set the standard as to what and how much footage is done in a day..but be realistic...
