I think a lot of us are "sophomoric" in our sales (myself included), hence the dis-belief/outrage regarding the prices quoted for the services provided....it's kind of what a lot of us go through when we are selling our services.

From what I gleaned years back, membership was open to only those who had already been somewhat successful but wanted to reach the next level and also be able to enjoy their family/life more.

I'll be very interested in Ed's research and/or membership and what he thinks about it.

JF are you reverting to your mental conditioning? you are starting to sound like them... or are you an elite covert super member sent way in advance?

I'm sure Ed has done a bit of "googlin'"...are you finding much in the way of negative stuff?

Try looking for negative stuff regarding SM...we all know that's not hard to find.
I googled this ... remodelers advantage complaints

http://www.google.com/search?q=remo...mplaints&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

nada...which is kind of amazing for a company that has been around for a # of years.

Just don't close your minds yet. I don't have a dog in this hunt either way, but I do believe that this deserves some further research.
True. I Googled till I ran out of pages and didn't find anything.

I do know several members from another site that went to some initial meetings and it just was not for them.

But, that is not necessarily a complaint about the organization, just the fit between them and one or several contractors mindsets and methods, or reluctance to accept changes and being told that what they are doing is not working, so try this instead.

I wonder, if there is a version of this type of organization that is geared more towards the smaller sized contractor trying to make that leap, where the fees do not seem so inhibiting.

I think we heard from all the members Ed, they all sound the same... "WE LOVE RA."

Don't know about that Ed. What kind of sales do you do (or... my bad for asking in public)... are you in the "range" for RA? (which I believe is lower than it once was iirc).

Yeah PGD is gonna 'party' for two weeks!

My older kids are taking my wife on a vacation, it was planned a while back, I'm waiting to get approval (maybe) to a pretty good size commercial job, so I'm staying.

Not anymore, if their quota is the million plus.

I used to, but I also needed a life too.

What does "iirc" stand for? International Institute of Remodeling Contractors? (Just a guess)

For what it's worth:

CCN either has, or will have a smaller version of their program. I was in the pilot, it was OK... the rebuild should be better, nut I'm probably not going to go that route.

I have a local gentleman who I retain as a part time CFO. In fact, his business is called "CFO for Hire".
He's good, and understands us, and has 30+ years of business in various industries under his belt.
We lost $75k last year. We've had 2 profitable quarters in a row now, and much of that is due to hard work, at his direction and council.

It "costs" me $12k - 15k a year to go the right direction.
Oh, and we're under $800k in sales- so it's a fairly substantial line item.

I've found that I have been unable to develop local friends who understand business, life with a business, and running a business. So I've taken to hiring my friends. It's kinda like a high-priced hooker, but less chance of disease. (sorry)

Good topic, I'm looking forward t oa deeper discussion- not just the 1 post hurrah's.

Back when I was checking them out (and hearing from the GC that I did work for, who was a member), that is one of the benefits, hearing/talking with your peer group about how to make that happen (the life part).

Eddy, I am shocked that you had to go outside our borders in search for these answers and you couldn't just stay here. Need help? Ask us. That is what we are here for.
*places arm across shoulders*
Edward, anytime you need some support, rather it be for the business or personal, just stay the word and we'll talk your ear off.
*Turns and faces Ed, grasps his chin and lifts his head until they're looking eye to eye*
Now Eddie, ask away and we'll satisfy your desire for knowledge and we'll do it for free.
