What do you mean. I'm guessing cellular data to search out wi-fi hot spots? If so then no. You can turn your 3G/4G of and still find and use wi-fi
Yes BC, that is what I am meaning. Im trying to find out if it's my kids not being responsible with the data or if it's a technical issue, before I do a major slap down! It's good to be well informed before you do this.
Probably, like my kids, they are think they are using the wi-fi but not all devices use the search function like they should.
I have a tablet that is able to use data on the cell grid. even though the tablet has the wi-fi on, it doesn't always connect. If it doesn't then it will use the data minutes.
This happens sometimes when the tablet is there at home with the wi-fi working correctly, it just doesn't connect for some reason.
Now I always check to make sure the wi-fi icon is showing that it is connected.

Andy.

SPOTIFY! Does anyone have this music app and does it use a lot of data?

It will probably eat up to a gig with a full day streaming.
I just turn off data usage if I'm gonna be in a WiFi zone for awhile, to make sure it isn't using the data.

I use it most every day. It will use your data, if you stream it, but if you pay 10 bucks a month, you just download all the music you could ever want when you have it connected to a wi-fi spot. Then it doesn't use any.

If you do get Spotify, make sure you set it to download at extreme quality or it doesn't sound as good.
Yes most spotify tracks can run upto 320kbps so if streaming all day you could eat up data pretty quickly. As far as I know though they only very recently started letting non subscribers stream to mobile devices. You used to have to make playlists if you didn't pay the $9.99 and they don't use data.

She pays the 9.99 I just put them both on a Data diet! They are allowed 2 gigs a month each it's 10 bucks each gig after that. They are both in school so it will come out of their 100 dollar a month stipend.

Have you heard the "but wifi is too slow" excuse yet? Funny that my wifi is lightning fast now that they were reminded that overages are coming out of their pocket.

You can make playlist available in offline mode. You sync them on wi-fi so it doesn't use cellular data.

You can also turn of the ability for spotify to use cellular data all together in the iphone's settings.

I live by spotify. Bluetooth in my truck, desktop in the office.
