I'm attracted to cork or bamboo for flooring in my 100-year old carriage house. Very few contractors have experience in installing these floors in our area (upstate NY). My question is this: given our climate of harsh, dry-air winters and humid summers, would either cork or bamboo be a good choice? Also, any overall views of these two flooring materials, (especially versus hardwood)?

Frank Lloyd Wright installed cork floors and walls in some of the bathrooms (if not all) at his famous house at Fallingwater, PA. The cork was sealed with bees wax and remains great looking to this day. As you might imagine the house is very humid in the summer (being above the falls and all) and when I visited the house was not climate controlled.

I believe the library of Congress has cork over 100 years old.

I see cork decks on older upscale yachts often. Pretty extreme going from soaking in saltwater to cooking in the So FL sun.
