depends how they were spec'd out when ordered...

Hard to say, but I would be inclined to consider these columns as sleaves surrounding the actual structural member.

Duracast makes columns that support incredible loads. Can't really tell how large those are and don't know how much they are loaded, but hopefully someone ran the number before adding that additional load.

 

HB&G fiberglass make huge load bearing columns. Solid or split I believe. Never installed the split ones. Theres also "Crown" Columns.

 

I have put in quite a few in the past and they can hold quite a bit of weight, they are fiberglass

Most likely what the fellas said, they're rated to support the weight as Griz said if they made from some sort of composite material, or like others said these are firberglass columns or wrap arounds.

 

So..... are they composite, cast, fiberglass, wrapped or what?

 

Get a ladder & look @ them on top take a utility knife & find out what it is - wrapped or what. Not rocket science

the capital which is plastic covers the end, usually you can tell what the ones we get are made out of by tapping on them.

The one we get are stock item and not expensive at all but the capitals and bases fit a little loose but they are for decorative purposes only

 

I’ve only set probably a thousand. Some w/covered tops some w/ only the ring top & bottom depending on app. Can’t be hard to figure out what it’s made of. If you don’t know the brand how are you going to know weight cap for this app

Constructive feedback is 1 thing. Looking on the easy net for a quick right now, I can’t stretch my brain enough to grab a ladder & find out what I’ve got here which is the only obvious thing to do - not so much.

 

I've used them and some are structural. Iirc they were made with a marble slurry. Pacific Columns is who I use.
