i just purchased a house :cheesygri , and while i was going through the home inspection i notice that in the A\C disconnect for the condenser,the fuses were pulled out of it :( so i put the fusses back in the disconct and the condenser fired right up with out the thermostate being set to cold is that commen or is the condenser bad??

Personaly, I don't think it's your condenser. It sounds like a control issue, however thats exactly 2 cents.

HVAC is my only residental short comming.

An HVAC fella should look at it.

if the t stat is not calling for cooling, then the outside condenser should not run. there is a 24v signal sent to the contactor's relay coil from the t stat in the cooling mode via the air handle/funace. the problem will either be in the t atat, or the wiring in the furnace/a-h.

I would actually venture that the contactor has bad/buirnt contacts or is dirty and is stuck closed making it where the only way a person could kill the power was pull the disconnect. I would recommend having it serviced and checked out by an HVAC contractor.
