For years now, the bulk of our cabinet hardware has been Blum hinges, Blum Tandem glides and Accuride side mount glides.

There's a vendor in town wooing me and they sell some stuff I've not used before. Wondering if you guys use this stuff and if they're any good.

1. Salice Hinges and glides
2. Knape & Vogt (KV) glides
3. Grass hinges and glides

Thanks

Paul

I have used Salice hinges before and I couldn't really say they were any better or worse than the Blum line but I haven't used their drawer slides

I tried out the KV soft closing drawer slides last year and I will never use them again. A factory sales rep was out at my shop bragging that they were "as good" as Blum only cheaper and he left me a set to try out. I eventually installed the set in a bench that had a drawer in the bottom. Two weeks after the job was installed I got a call from the HO saying that one of the drawers wouldn't shut all the way.....out of the 30 drawers on the job guess which one it was?

I asked my local sales rep about it today and he told me that KV had some "issues" with their soft closing devices and a "better" version was now available. No offense but I cannot afford to be some company's field guinea pig.

I learned my lesson...I will be sticking with Blum

Why change something that works?
Just like Bergstrom - I'm being asked to try these other MFG's. I've got no problem with Blum and Accuride - just asking about what others use. I thought I read once that Leo was a Grass fan.

Where the heII is Leo when you need him?

I don't do enough to change yet. Hopefully in the near future something will click.

Leo and Gus are allowing time for others to answer!

I use Grass hinges, usually the snap on Euro hinges, rarely the FF/compact hinges. I use to use Accuride ball bearing slides and found that after about a year the screws would come loose. I swapped over to the Blum Tandems and haven't received a call back since.

There, I answered...satisfied?

The cabinet shop I used to work with switched from Blum to Salice. Big mistake IMO.

Especially the hinges. Where the blums glide off when you remove a door and are easy to adjust, the Salices usually require a screwdriver to disengage.

I found the adjustment screws to be less reactive also. They may be cheaper, but in the field I found them to be frustrating.

(Also, the dust covers/caps we used don't snap in and hit home either-they flop around)

I believe that some reps push products according to their margins not what is in your best interests. Another reason for them to push something is how much stock they have on hand. Especially items that are not moving.

I'm loyal to a fault in some regards. I have had nothing but great results using Blum products. And now that they reduced the price of their tandems there is no reason for me to look anywhere else.

I have watched all the competitors come up with an answer to the tandem over the last several years and I'm sure that someone will come up with a real contender. The Grass slides come to mind. But there is that loyalty issue I have. I'm content for now.

When a new rep stops by looking for a sale I end up using a football analogy. "I have a starting quarterback and until he turns the ball over and starts losing games for us, we are sticking with him." That goes with products as well.

Blum has it's new self contained soft close hinges out now too. Check those out if you have not already. They look like Blum took their time and got that one right.

So far we use Blum hinges. The internal soft close works great, no problems with them yet.

Drawer guides we have used only Blum until a couple of months ago. A few jobs have come out with Salice guides... I'm not impressed.
I do like the fact that they have a front side to side adjustment, but that seems to be the only advantage over Blum guides. Once you remove a drawer, they can be difficult to lock back in.
