My wife and I bought this house about 8 years ago.it was built in 1964. the ceiling was discolored and had holes in it. I decided to cover it with Styrofoam ceiling tile. Horrible idea. I want flat cielings, so I decided to start taking the tiles down, but the power grab caulk i used is taking some of the swirl cieling with it. My question is, what in the hell was used to make this ceiling? When I scraped some off into the bag for prolab to examine for asbestos. I examined it. It looks like it has crystals in it? The house was built in 1964. 3 other homes in the subdivision I have been in have this type of ceiling as well. The actual texture before you get to the the drywall itself is maybe 1mm thick. Very thin stuff. Anyone know how this was made? Also, any guesses on if it cotains asbestos? Thanks!
