A customer wants cedar siding on their house that is all cinder block. What is the best way to do this. Run furring strips and then nail plywood over them to have something to nail the cedar too? What about insulation board. Any input would help. Thank you.

The first plan that comes to mind is,
Building wrap, 1" horizontal firring strips, rigid syrofoam in between the strips, and nail the cedar on.
Sizes and thicknesses all depends on window and soffitt trim etc.
Wrap may need to go over the foam.
I'm sure someone will suggest an alternative.
