CA Contractors license

hey there i am new to the forum ..i was wondering because i was looking around in California to get my contractors license ..i have been doing finish carpentry for 7 years now and i would like to branch out on my own...i was looking at Allied Contractors school but i thought it was a bit pricy for almost 600 bucks for the books and practice test..are there any other places i could look that might be cheaper? thanks :)

I used Allied to prepare for the state exam. I mainly needed it for the law & business section of the test but their program was pretty solid. I thought they charged more like $300 for their study material? Good luck!
I'm pretty sure we don't have enough contractors.
