Blowing Light Bulbs

2069 Views 9 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Hardly Working
Okay so here's the deal I'm sent out to a house to finish a remodel and install a set of ceiling lights. So I go ahead and hook up the lights and after a couple days I threw a couple bulbs in them. After a day or two when I come in the morning I flip the switch and pop there goes another bulb. So I changed it out for another bulb and a few days later pop. Voltage is not that high only at 112-118 volts.
Ideas?

Bad batch of bulbs? What type of bulb? CFL? Dimmer or regular switch?
Voltage was the only thing I could think of, but you covered that. Dunno.
Three possibilities---

1.Crummy bulbs

2.Wrong voltage bulbs---(low voltage with chandelier base)

3.Loose neutral on a multi wire branch circuit.

D. vibration .

Its the Government! They are watching all homes spiking voltage once in awhile just to blow bulbs so we burn through the surplus sooner! Next they will start selling bad gas and fuel so they can push the Chevy Volt on the people!
I saw the thread title and had an image of Uncle Fester.

 It does kinda look like he's bl..............well nevermind :)
I've found the problem is usually I end up with a bad case of bulbs.

Big box store customers and employees drop these boxes all the time and they end up right back on the shelf.

Try bulbs from a different batch.
Its always a bad batch, Ive had electricians try and pin it on my dimmers a couple times.
Let me guess.... Phillips light bulbs?... :whistling

My Sparky went with #3 but I have to trace it.

Were you at the lumber yard when I bought them? Are you stalking me?
