I am subbing some work from another buulder right now. i have seen the whole project from start to finish. my estimate for the total cost was around one hundrend thousand dollars and that would be the high end. If i contracted the job I would have charged about 75,000.00 max. he charged over 150,000.00. i based costs off materials and labor cost with a reasonable mark up. Is there something im missing? Is there a way to bid off % of homes worth or how do people get their bids so high.

All bids should be figured by the following:

Labor + Materials + Profit + Overhead + PITA= Cost

That cost is not what is necessarily passed on to the client.

Additional monies may/can be added depending on what the traffic will bear.

However, this can be a very dangerous road to go down...

Maybe you are low, maybe he has a bunch more overhead? Sounds like a good salesman. It could be good for both of you if you can be his sub on others also. You don't have to deal with the public, just build the house?
