The best way is to hire a competent remodeler, who will rebuild it properly.

HELP, I am working on a house where the door openings were not framed tall enough for some large ornate doors. Trimming the bottom of the doors is not an option and the sheet rock has been installed and surfaced. I need to cut out 2 to 3 inches taller in the top of the door opening (bottom of door header). Used a reciprocating saw, but it took a long time and I had trouble keeping the blade straight on both sides of the opening.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CUT OUT PART OF THE DOOR HEADER ACCURATELY?
Any suggestins would be greatly appreciated!!!
