Basement Framing Ideas for foundation with two different thicknesses

You could frame it as two separate walls(high and low half walls) and work in a nice ledge piece. Put some built ins on one wall and make a home theater space.

Turn the top half into inset cabinets/shelving?

Perfect place for libary shelves with desk/table space.

Or some space for a tv and speaker/home theater system built into the walls.

You can do a lot of cool things with a space like that.

I just framed something like that, though I only had a 8" difference. Frame it like an upside down bulkhead. 2x bottom plate on floor, 2x studs on flat, 2x2 top plate, nailed into little 18" pieces attaching to a 2x ledger nailed to wall. You following me camera guy? Drywall it. Though 18" might good a good place to get in some woodworking or a countertop. Definitely get sparky in there to run your wires for receptacles and new tv!

It all depends on how flat and level the ledge is. I put 2" foam on all foundation surfaces for insulation and a moisture barrier so that already bumps you up to 50" plus the height of the finish materials. If it's level and flat I'd bring the lower stud wall up to the foam height and then lay a 3/4 ply layer right on top of the foam and wall. Hilti or tapcon through the ply and it will also anchor to top of the stud wall without having to use upper brackets.

Frame 2 different walls and put a wood ledge, it will give you a place to put your beer when you're playing pool
