i read somewhere that a bad battery can wreck a good charger, is there any truth to this.

just curious about this because my older 12v impact driver's charger had the cord disconnnected and reattached, which may have adversely affected the batterys, just got a new 18v impact driver also bosch, the new charger will charge 12v. im just wondering if putting a not so good battery on a new charger may damage the charger

Any charger built with even the most rudimentary consideration for good design practices will have no problem protecting itself when dealing with a bad battery. If you think about it, there has to be current-limiting circuitry so that it doesn't just boil out the innards of any battery with a very low charge. That current limiting would protect the charger even if you laid a dead short across it.

I'd have no qualms at all about using the new charger on the old batteries.
