Ironically...asbestos siding probably would have stopped the great Chicago fire.... As long as it's cement-covered, non-frangible it really doesn't do too bad as a siding material. I've had to demo it from houses in Missouri - the stuff takes a better beating than vinyl or wood and lasts. There's a reason they still use it to make vehicle brakes.

Poor handling and opportunistic attorneys really ruined the reputation of a great material here.
