David,
I use TrustFax. I'm not allowed to post their web address because I haven't posted 15 times to this site yet, but put a "www" in front and a ".com" behind it. They have several plans and you get a local fax number. You can get an 800 number also. They have a $9.95/month plan that is probably what you're looking for. I had to upgrade to a $18.95/month plan due to the quantity faxes I was sending and receiving. I've used them for about a year and it's been great. I print what I want and I receive faxes to my Blackberry via email. Just thought it may be what you're looking for. Good luck.

I have a distinctive ring set up. 1 line with 2 numbers, phone rings normal and fax rings in bursts of 3. Its an add on feature thru the phone company and was less than a additional line and I kept my fax number. The fax is set up to only answer on 3 ring bursts.

It sounds complicated but its really simple a single line does my DSL, phone and fax.

you can use your normal voice business line (or residential for that matter) and set up the fax to pick up on tone transmission. depending on hardware settings, your fax would listen once your line is picked up (or answering machine picks up) and receive the fax. whether it's hard copy or stored on the computer would be dependent on the type of fax machine.

btw, the machine I use is a copy/fax/scanner
