I'm doing a small addition and the architect is calling for "flash vent". The roof is butting up to an exterior wall so a ridge vent wont work. I googled it and only found a masonry product. I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on this stuff.

Flash vent is basically half of a shingle over vent. IOW, if you cut a S/O vent down through the middle on the long axis, the tall side goes up against the wall and the shorter side extends over the new roof. You simply cut a groove in the sheeting under the vent, just like you would up at the ridge.

You need to pay particular attention to flashing this type of vent arrangement though. Whenever we've done this, we both flash and counter flash it.

New to me also.... I'm a GC not a roof pro.... any chance of a pic or drawing...

TIA
Ask and ye shall receive.... Now, granted, this is a quick mock up I just did in MS Paint, but you can get the idea....

EDIT: Here is a shingle over vent drawing. Imagine the flash vent cut in half on the long axis right down the middle.... (again, apologies, it's MS Paint)....
