Any effective mosquito devices?

The tiger mosquitos are already insane this year. Aside from the basics (no standing water, clear gutters, cut down weeds..), is anyone having added success with any of the products and gadgets? It would be nice to go DEET-free on occasion, like when I just want to have a beer on the patio.

Look into kite patch. A while back they were crowd funding it and I think it hit big time. It may have already started production and it was meant to work really well.

You can spray around with Permethrin, especially bushes and low trees. Dogs and people are OK with it, but not cats.

If you're looking for an effective mosquito system, only the very costly one are any good, and I'm not dropping $500+ to kill mosquitos.

Just checked it out - definitely interesting.

I aint seen it for sale yet but cant be long away. Only one item i have ever funded on a crowd funding site has ever turned up. I just got a check back for $190 today for a item i crowd funded and they have kept delaying it. Pulled out as others are already on the market. I rarely crowd fund anymore because of this. Hopefully this gets to market over here.

Fascinating. Thanks! (Still, I'll wait for more field studies.)

I use this great non-Deet spray from the local apothecary. It has all sorts of ingredients mosquitoes hate like lavender, lemon grass, cedar ect... Smells good too but I do have to apply it more often than Deet.

If you really want to be effective for the future, build or buy a bat house. They cost about $25 and the bats eat about 1,000 mosquitoes in an hour! Sometimes it take a few years to attract the bats but way worth it.

Bat houses combat mosquito problem organically

There's more to how mosquitoes find us than just CO2 detection.
If you stop breathing, they won't find you

Put out CO2 traps. Some warm water with yeast and sugar. They;ll go to it, fall in the water and die.

But that's only for static areas, like your back yard.
If you get Co2 traps, put them in your neighbors yard.
Build a cage around the patio like all the houses in Florida
I bring my wife for mosquito repellant...they like her and avoid me
Its generally said that.. mosquito attack people having sweet blood. So maybe your blood seem them salty then.. lol
Whoa!! Loved that tatoo man!!! That's Fantastic!!
Nothing works as well as applying Deet to your skin, which is particularly important for people in areas at risk for mosquito-borne diseas.
I take a 2-liter soda bottle, cut it in half, and then I stick the top part of the bottle top down into the bottom half. I fill up the bottom half with about an inch of the water/sugar/yeast solution and they all fly into the bottle. Because the top is inverted, they can easily get in but they cant figure out how to fly out.
Reviving this thread for a testimonial.

At home, along with being more conscientious with standing water this year, I've also been tossing "mosquito bits" into the things I can't drain (like below-grade gutter extensions of my neighbors, the old pick-up with a bed full of green water down the street, etc.

It's been a big improvement so far. Fingers crossed for the duration. It's actually pleasant out there.

Very few mosquitoes in my yard. Never had a problem. Go one town south to my Dad's and it a different story. You don't want to be outside after dusk. The little vampires are out.
I can't remember the last time i was bitten by a mosquito.
