I use to sand down the raw hacksaw cuts on fiberglass sail battens using a carbide sanding block. It was the the only thing that would last more than two battens. Forget using any type of sandpaper.

My Findings:
Because there are a lot fewer grit particles and they are placed further apart (there is a lot of dead space) you should get a smaller grit than you would use with conventional paper. That is because they tend to live a rougher finish.
