I am replacing door in an appartment. I ordered 3 9/16 frames as it seemed to be 2x3 studs but it turns out to be 1 5/8. Old door were metal frames. Will I run into problems if I just rip the frame narrower on the table saw? Anyone ever had that issue?
You can rip jambs down to narrower, though 2 5/8 is getting pretty flimsy. Will you have any stop left? Your jamb isn't going to provide much strength for your hinges - better make sure they're screwed into the studs.
