Good Morning:

Can anyone tell me if I can install 3/8" prefinished bellawood flooring (solid) over hardibacker board? My customer wanted tile so I got floor ready for the ceramic by attaching the hardibacker down with screws and quickset and now they have changed to wood. I was going to use Bostick's best adhesive for the wood. Can this be done on the hardibacker? If i tear it out it will tear out the subfloor due to the quickset glue I used. Thanks! :(

Ya gota love customers.

I'd check with Hardyboard then find a compatable aheasive, I don't even know if they make one.

Or, talk them into floating, I'm sure that would work.

Thanks Bob. They have already bought 3/8" bellawood and that is what I am stuck with. Hardibacker has been no help at all. Thanks!

From the Bostik datasheet:

"Because Bostik’s Best is a waterproof adhesive, it offers some
vapor-retarding characteristics to wood flooring installations. Use
Bostik’s Best over all substrates common to hardwood flooring
installations including: concrete, plywood, particle or chip board
(underlayment grade), well bonded vinyl, ceramic tile, cement
backer board, gypsum patch/underlayments (dry, above grade),
cement patch/underlayments, radiant heat flooring, cutback
residue (refer to Limitations), and terrazzo."

You should contact Bella-wood and ask them. You might void the warranty of the wood if you install it contrary to their written instructions. :)

Usually, if the customer changes their mind, I usually charge them to tear out what I ve already got down plus disposal fee...and create a new invoice for the new products being installed.
