2002 F-350 1 Ton with 9' Royal utility box bed, 5.4L V8, 140,000 miles, AC, automatic, newer tires, alarm system. Been a great truck and would trust it to go anywhere. I have needed it to work for me everyday so any maintenance needed has been done promptly.

So how come your sending it down the road .
I acquired a trailer. While the 5.4L can pull it around, when I have it fully loaded I will want something with a little more power. The truck loaded with tools weighs 8 thousand pounds. So add a trailer to that....

I am kinda reluctant to sell it because I really love it but I want to see how this working out of a trailer goes. I also use it for personal stuff sometimes. So a nice 4x4 crew cab would be nice to have with the family.

You gonna go V10 or diesel. I been looking to upgrade the truck and decided against a diesel. But I won't be driving it much. Lots of people like the V10. Just curious?

I have a F250 5.4, and I wish I bought the turbo diesel.

Spencer, why no diesel for you?

I chose the gas because I don't know anything about diesel, plus I idle mine from time to time and diesel smells bad.

But I need the power and wish I chose diesel.

The only diesel I will have will be a 7.3. They had the better mileage per gallon. I know it will be an older truck but I don't care.

I also am fine with a 460 or V10. To get the 460 it will have to be 90's model but there is a place in the valley that seams to specialize in low mileage 90's Fords.

I just test drove the new 6.2 V8. It was pretty nice.

I have always wanted a diesel but have been worried about the cost of maintenance. I will never buy a 6.0 and all the newer ones get horrible fuel economy. So if I find a sweet 7.3, I might take it.

I don't drive my truck much. I'm almost always in the van. If you're not putting significant miles on it a diesel doesn't make sense.

Diesels are more expensive in every way. From the initial purchase to upkeep. They cost money.

I feel there is a greater risk of major repair issues with diesels. Seems like lots of very costly things can and will go wrong. Not worth it to me at this point.

I'll probably own a diesel someday, but for now a V10 would do everything I want and be more cost effective. Not to mention for my money I can get a newer vehicle with less miles vs diesel.

I did some volunteer work at an animal rescue last summer, out in the county. I had to repair some horse stables.

Anyway, I took my trailer, loaded with tools and then picked up some 2x10 PT lumber and some misc stuff and headed to the ranch. I honestly didn't think my truck was going to be able to pull the trailer up some of the hills. I literally had the pedal pinned to the floor just to maintain a top speed of 45 mph up the hills.

That was just one instance that made me think I should've bought the turbo diesel. My brother had the V10; he loves it. But, he doesn't do any kind of contracting work. It's just his daily driver.

I'm going to compare the V10 to the diesel as far as power/torque

Post your findings. I'd be very curious. Just be mindful of the years you're comparing.

I know that for instance with the 5.4 it makes a big jump in HP after 04. V10 may be the same way.

If you're looking at new diesels. From what I have heard the ford is stupid powerful. It wouldn't even be a contest.

I had a '92 ford with the 7.3. Thing was like a tank. Loved it.

I have a crew cab 1-ton 4x4 with the powerstroke, and it's nice too. I need a diesel because I tow all the time.


I love that service body. That's probably the only thing I wish I had on my truck. If I had any money, I'd prolly buy it just for the bed.

Either way, I think you'll be fine. IMO you just run a higher risk of big repair bills with the diesel. 7.3 is great. Can't go wrong there. It really just comes down to how much you pull. And in reality. The V10 will still be great even if you do pull everyday. Lots of guys do with the V10.

I would hesitate to say great fuel economy. I just put 1300 miles on a 98 CC long box 4x4 this weekend. Pulled a trailer there empty and came back with 6k on it (light load) and got 10 out and 10 back.

I can do that with a big block gas.

The only advantage I know of is off the line and hills.

Your right about great. I guess I meant better than the newer ones with all the emissions stuff on them. I guess pulling a trailer either way will drive the MPG down.

Be prepared for single digit mpg with the v10. Mine weighs 8-8.5k lbs. around town-9. Highway-10-11 Towing 8.5 and less. Sucks. Literally sucks.

I will let you know what I find.
My truck is 2008. I know it's loaded and heavy with the racks and boxes, plus the trailer. But I thought it had a 10k lbs towing capacity.

But I heard the same thing: Ford's turbo diesel is a beast. I've never driven one but I love that whistling sound of the turbo when you accelerate.

My truck is almost paid off. I hope to drive it till the wheels fall off. It's crazy how much trucks cost. Like the cost of a Vette
