Did a commercial building that had rooms inside with storage on top. Inspector wanted the ceiling joists and ledger engineered for a 100 PSF load. Said it was Code for commercial storage areas.

I have another commercial project with the same kind of thing, a room inside a much larger building. They are planning to use it for storage of lighter product. I was going to design it for that same 100 PSF floor load.

Is that an actual Building Code requirement? Any one have the article so I can look into it in more depth?

I have customer who sells forklifts and pallet racking, said some warehouses go to 500lbs sf and need 8ft deep footings for racking. Soils testing is needed many times. I had no idea.

Think balconies are 100 PSF live load also

This is for that walk-in cooler job.

20x50 cooler. Engineer spec‘d double 14” TJI’s at 16”OC.

Over $18k just in ceiling joists. Is what it is if they want storage up there. 🙄

Or posts in the walk in, and add a mid-span beam. Still working out final design.
