There is no way of knowing how long the pre primed has sat out or where it came from or if something was spilled on it. And just a wild guess but maybe the company used a cheap primer to start with....

With even a slight crown if the painter uses anything other than flat or if there is a window on adjoining wall that throws light across wall that crown would be really visible.

I use one of those plastic mud pans for repairs...

I use one of those plastic mud pans for repairs with hot mud because just let it dry and twist it like an ice cube tray and you have a clean pan.
