The treads and landing are 1" granite we mainly use the granite wether it's 1 or 2" as opposed to bluestone. Much more durable and consistent in my opinion I have it at my own house

I haven't that I can recall seen expansion joint in a residential foundation (Connecticut).

I'm going to do some reading up on it though, seems like it could definitley have it's benefits
