Just hit it with a sanding block after the cut, before you move it. I like the rough cut on the rough sawn...looks appropriate.

They do come with first 4-6" made out of composite (PVC) material. It's pine from there up. I imagine a full PVC frame would run more money, probably why they push the pine frames.

I concur, the leather tape holder on my Occy also "broke in" after a bit. It's loose enough now that my 25' fat max slides out pretty easily. You have to push with your thumb from underneath.
