Clearly someone who hasn't traveled. I've never seen a hawk on the west coast, but I know the better work is on the other side, and hawk and trowel seems more common there.

Sounds good to me. Last gypcrete I tiled over I primed with diluted redgard. Not sure what's considered best practice now. Grinding lightly with a cup wheel doesn't seem like a bad idea.
