Over the years we've dealt with both siding and caulk manufacturers. They both say you can't have a three way contact caulk joint. It lessens the amount it can stretch and move.

Boxed eave. I like Toms method of holding the fascia snug along the boxed eave, but I prefer to use 3m's VHB tape. Holds like a mofo to aluminum!
