honestly, the best way to tackle this is to recover the refrig. and put in a new valve. Outside of this, there is no bandaid fix that would make for certain a solid repair.

i've always just cut out the fitting and brazed a length of pipe with a schrader valve tapped in. I hate messing with those things. trying to fill em with solder or brazing just over heats everything...
