10,000 seems reasonable to me you mite ad some brigeing between joist where the 4/4 s are (as if ading more lumber and labor to the total will make the costomer happy:eek: )

sounds like the roof mite be leaking or ice damage? wood it be possible to remove roof deck to the wall and try to hide splice in the 4 or 6" where wall meets the roof?:hammer:

FHA block a 22 1/2" 2x block nailed between rafters some people call them pressure blocking there not need in every ridge to rafter connection but when they are needed they work well for me...
