Paintable non-combustible material for fireplace surround?

Iíve had issues skimming cement board above gas fireplaces. Like the one in your picture. It gets very hot. Mud spider cracked.

Makes sense to me. Iíve seen damage to finished drywall where siding was done after drywall.
Same with loading roofs. A lot of tile roofs here. Trusses sag.
