My wife wanted chickens..the kind for laying eggs..blue eggs at that. So for over a year they have been living in a small coop that she designed using an igloo dog house and some fencing..they seemed happy. She wanted them to be happier..so we designed a new coop and built it over the summer. The chickens (and my wife) have never been happier.

The front has double door access to the coop for cleaning and the rear has a storage area for all the food and assorted items we need for the cluckers.

Looks good. Now you need to eat 800$ worth of blue eggs.

yeah, right- only 200 dozen to go to break even! We were getting about 4 eggs a day, but now they are in their molting stage and dont like laying this time of year..

Thanks- I promised them seamless and I came through! I am looking for an appropriate barrel to put under to capture the water, which will be used for the chickens...

now you need to put it on wheels to roll around the yard. Looks nice...much nicer than ours.

Bog Shoe, Here in Hawaii most all of our chickens are free ranging. They're all over the place, chickens everywhere. Only the fighting cocks are cooped up. Chickens fights are big time over here, I have a friend with over 500 fighting cocks at his house!

Very well thought out. Did you have to sink any wire netting to prevent rodents from digging in and hurting the birds? We have to do that where I live, rats and coons love chickens...

Yes we did sink some wire- the bottom fencing is 1/2" x 1/2" square stock to keep the little critters out. We bent the wire and dug down 6" and out 1' away from the perimeter of the coop and buried it. After I took these pictures ee also added more fencing to the top part of the coop to really keep out the bigger, climbing critters.
