I fired them around 2011. I forget the specifics but basically the salesman said it would cost x it actually cost x+y. Called customer support to cancel. They reviewed the tape, confirmed the agent misrepresented the contract, and then told me I should have read the contract. They assumed no responsibility for the lies of their salesman. I might have overlooked all of this if the leads had been any good at all. Spent thousands, genehaven't. tiny jobs in a year. Charged for duplicate leads, leads told me to eff of because 5 other people already called them, charged for nonexistent phone #s. It even came to light that Home advisor was paying people .50$ to generate 50$ contractor leads back in 2009. Scammers. I told them 10 years ago I would never do business with them again ever. And I havent.

I work for the company, I am kind of morally obligated to set the record straight! I love my company and my job and I love helping people every day. I've changed lives at my job. It's very rewarding. I hope yours is similarly so :)
Morgan, your post almost sounds like it could’ve come from somebody who had joined a cult. 😇 Anyway, for what it’s worth, here’s my experience with Angie. Long ago I tried to use Service Magic. Horrible experience! Then, because of it’s bad reputation, Service Magic became Home Advisor. I tried that as well. Horrible experience! During that time I was also using Angie’s list. Great experience! Then HomeAdvisor took over Angie’s list and called it Angie. Immediately after Angie’s list changed ownership, it became an overpriced and under performing promotional source for my company. I would advise anyone to avoid Anji at all costs.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls…this is old news.

Google business listings spanked these companies so bad they DOUBLED their predatory marketing.

Just do SEO, and adwords with a reputable company. Currently, it seems like fake reviews from troll farms are leading the way but Google is getting a handle on it and the honest companies will come out ahead.
That really depends upon your market and trade. SEO is dying because Angie's List, Home Advisor, and CraftJack can pose as other companies in your area and soak up the available leads. You really have to be a guru to beat them. You can pay for AdWords, but that also depends on how many people you are going up against. Ranking a website is though, and pay per lead services do it a lot better than most people you can pay, that's just thier job.

They are trash! We set up our website for Hutchinson Fence & Deck Company and we get leads that way. We don't need Angi anymore and I regret that we ever used them. Those leads were terrible
They are a lot less expensive than paying to have your website done correctly so that it will actually grow your business. Outsource the things that you are not good at. In this case, outsource your marketing.

I have said this for over ten years, just look at the Terms and Conditions and it is crazy what people are willing to agree to in order to get listed. The recommended reading of "FTC Charges HomeAdvisor, Inc. with Cheating Business ..." is just a tip of the iceberg. Contractors just need to understand there is no free ride, or cheap one ... and you either pay now or pay later ... but the terms and conditions how the will use "Your Content" allows them to benefit FOREVER. Most people simply do not have time to read before saying "I agree", and then there is no leg to stand on. Hope some are swayed to focused on their own marketing.

I worked with Handy which switched over to Angles from there App. I worked with them for almost 2 yrs, & they suck, & they are robbers, I used there service just for extra cash, but they would send you out on jobs that they charge the customers lets say $ 200.00, all we would make off of that if lucky might be $ 40.00 & mind you depending on how far you might have to travel half of that $ 40.00 might be your gas. There isn't any contact number to call anyone, everything is email or over the chat. That's really shady if I say .

seems like they hit a dead end. their leads are horrible now.
anyone else experiencing this?
Ya think? had one of their headhunters call me repeatedly from I guess corporate? Told her that it would be a cold day in hell before I took anything or had anything to do with Angie’s list, HomeAdvisor, any of it. The most unprofessional, crappy entity to deal with that I ever ever had to deal with. Crappy/nonexistent customer service, almost criminal price gouging to clients. And the lowly contractor gets nothing

@Morganbrown…your kidding right,I don’t know who the hell your praising, but apparently you are comfortable being stomped on and giving the thumbs up to basically what I would term a criminal enterprise? Also apparently comfortable making on average about 12-13% of the quoted price of the job?Really?wAll your doing is making the easy money for your masters.Put down the koolaide

Jesus- you jackoff trolls for Angie’s have nothing better to do than to stink up the joint with you’re BS?You are nothing more than a low level shady criminal enterprise.I am making it my personal vendetta to expose how ****ty and jacked of a “company” you are.I have a big mouth and a lot of contacts and revel in underhanded shade just like you clowns-and I’m waaaay better at it

I have been doing construction and building for 10 years and i think it was just a couple months ago that I heard there advertisement on the local radio. Never heard of it before then. My first thought was when they were done was what a load of bull****. There is no way you can deliver that in a real world situation! Anyway not on my experience. Guess you guys all verified it for me.

......

  • Things we share with HA: When a customer comes to AL looking for a contractor and either does not make a selection of one of our advertisers or does not verify their real identity, we send their info we DO have over to Home Advisor as a lead. These are considered unqualified by AL standards and would never get to you if you were advertising on our platform, as we could't even assure they were real people needing real work. In my experience most of my SPs tell me they actually do a lot better with the AL leads if they end up buying them from HA, as our member base tends to be much more highly qualified.
I was with Service Magic as far back as 2005, then H/A, and now still have an Angi account that I keep off.

Service Magic was great, but after the 08 crisis, when my wife, self and child most needed it, your company fed my business garbage.

Now I know it truly was garbage.

Barry Diller's IAC has monopolized the internet contractor add market over the last 15 years, squeezing every penny from the pockets of new start-ups it can, to the extent that he's had a large scale effect on small businesses.

For years I tried calling, got the corporate "No sir, nothing's changed, it must be you" treatment as your leads went to hell, while at the same time prices quadrupled.

When H/A bought them, it went straight to hell - the quality was outright garbage, luckily by that time I'd built a steady clientele, I have had an account for all these years, and for at least a decade now I still keep it off, only getting an occasional lead because I forget to shut it off after the shutoff period.

I suspect H/A is now defunct, fused with AL because of this, I also suspect the business model of pitting new startups against each-other in a lowball contest for a fee is going to be hit with lawsuits.

I'd even wager out of court legal action is why H/A is gone, now merged with Angi.

Oh, wait, I'm right - FTC Charges HomeAdvisor, Inc. with Cheating Businesses, Including Small Businesses, Seeking Leads for Home Improvement Projects

Last week, I got a call from Angi, offering me a 30% discount because they had no plumbers in my area, I declined the offer, you guys have burned me too many times over the last decade, I hope to see Angi & Barry Diller go under.

Hilariously, I still rate IAC above ThumbTack, whom I suspect is going to be pressured to start displaying professional licenses from their contractors, and allowing bid losers to see basic customer info and who won the bid.

As Barry Diller might put it, "There's a new contractor startup born every minute"

.

I just started with theM and they don’t really send leads maybe 1 or 2 then then person never responds back and it’s like when you except it to talk with the customers Anglis just takes your money for no reason I will be canceling my account
