Got a house I am building and the interior designer spec'd out Farrow & Ball paint, never heard of it but apparently it is pretty expensive. In Houston I can only find one place that sells it. Anyone ever used this paint?

I have used F&B, I find it no better than anyone else’s top of the line product. We have about 10 of their colors we have matched in our cabinet finish also.

If they were specing FPE (Fine Paints of Europe) that’s a different story.

I've seen two sets of drawings from Two architects (Commeax out of SA and MurphyMears out of Houston) where it's spec'd in the last year, and just got a look book from a decorator last week with it specified. Our contract states we can use alternative materials where we want and we told the client we would match F&B to SW paint. Supposedly they are tough to match so we will see.

Ace in Marble Falls carries Farrow and Ball, full line up. Might see if there is one near you

Depending upon the chosen colors, SW might not be able to match F&B. Likely have much better luck with BM due to their use of Gennex colorants.

We only use SW pretty much, they pick colors we put up samples and they approve the samples. If it's a discerning client with a big budget we would entertain checking the product out but I'd be skeptical to install an unproven product and have to warranty it without more experience with the product. If they insisted they wanted it I'm not going to toss a house so I'd start calling builders I know and respect from urban markets and ask if they have experience, does it touch up well, etc...

All of thst gets charged for though, as do samples, going to get samples, putting up samples, can run a few grand on a decent house with a lot of colors if it's far out. This is a 1.3 mm house not a super custom, I bet they'd take my advice and save the money for something else they want in the house.

My brother wants to check out the paint though. We are buddies with the guy who owns Ace and try to use him when we can, so if the paint has a good rep and she can deal woth the cost increase from the budgeted line item then we might install.

Fwiw I don't like SW, lol. It's a relatively small town and I'm not going an hour to Austin for paint or sundries so we use the best in the area, which is SW. BM is sold at Ace too, but we haven't found that the enamels stayed as white as SW or that their best line was better than Duration. Been a while since we tried it though

F&B is good paint, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth due to the decorators pushing it as the best of the best, which it isn't, and they wouldn't even know if it was. Nothing wrong with it. Just overhyped by a factor of 10, but coverage, hide & flow are on par with any of the quality interior paints. If you have a reliable source, that's more than half the battle won.

Not sure if it's reliable or not as far as the spurce, but my PC doesn't like it 😆
