The LP Smart side trim is still better than the Miratec trim boards , which is nothing more than exterior MDF
Azek PVC trim is primarily what I use. For the customer that wants to save a few bucks I'll use cedar. With the price of cedar right now Azek is pretty close price wise.

This discussion makes me have to ask about Z-panels vs. OSB and tyvek? Same issues in olives as the floor sheathing. Could be an issue either way if not installed and flashed correctly. I can think of several weak points with the Zip panels vs. OSB/tyvek system.

I use a lot of PVC trim, only problem is whencustomer wants something other than white. Than I use LP trim.

That's a really bad analogy IMO. Plywood and osb aren't meant to be left to the elements hence why we shingle roofs and install siding. That osb crap siding from the late 80's is on a lot of homes up here and it's literally falling off houses. Pre primed FJP or pvc is all you see up here, the FJP your lucky to get 10 years out of it but it's all you see on new construction.

I hated plywood subfloor back when we used to frame. Always potato chips and had to sledge the crap out of it to get it in the groove. It didn't hold up to any type of weather and would start delaminating in a few weeks. Not to mention the tongue and groove always being damaged. I use advantec exclusively, I tried one of the other brands and it was spongy between the bays at 16 o.c. I think it was dryguard

I also just notice a depot 20 min away had 5/8 Advantec t&g in stock. I bet 2 layers of that would be impressive.
House of mine am remodeling , to even out two floors used two layers of 3/4 T&G osb , joists 16" oc, one solid floor. Never have had trouble with one layer of T&G on the floor. Have even used 3/4 T&G on my roof.

I've ripped up both products over the years, but it seams to me:

Laminated sheets of thin material will outperform glued together chips from a structural perspective.

However, the glue to wood ratio and orientation is the concern here. Thin strips of wood are also the weak point once water and rot are introduced...as thin strips of sheet also become individual layers of compromised components.

Better resin based adhesives and individually isolated wood is where the changes start making sense when moving into OSB for longevity in wet conditions.

This is where Advantech, ZIP takes the lead, and even OSB. We have individual chips isolating rot and adhesives discouraging water transfer throughout the product.

Never replaced any ply trim?

Nasty stuff. Delaminates like you might suspect.

What am I missing? Plywood trim? I have never come across it.
Primed FJ Pine trim in addition to getting thinner every year lasts 5-8 years at most. I have tried Boral but it can break just carrying a 5/4 x 4 from the truck to the saw, way too fragile and hard to find.
