I am sure back when I was bar bustn' I was not thinking this but I kinda miss tying all those figure 8 and saddle ties. Sorry to ruin the thread already but I just thought man is ther a machine for everything now?

We have a few of the Max guns, a few smaller ones and one larger. They are expensive but work pretty well. They also tie at least 2-3 times faster. All of the other brands of guns we've had have ended up not working correctly after a while. The Max guns we have usually work well and they are easy to get parts for. We always just buy them on ebay for half the price of new and replace any worn parts through their website.

We lift and place dobies as we pour so we can wheel for $100 vs pump for $500
Around here the engineers and inspectors won't allow it. To many failures from the rebar never getting lifted into place. I witnessed it a few months back when I had to cut through a structural slab, all the steel was laying on the vapor barrier. The concrete guys hadn't pulled it up into the slab. I'm sure there are plenty of competent subs that actually make sure that the steel gets lifted, but there were enough failures for it to become an issue.

I don't remember the last time I poured without a pump. Everything I do has limited access and is sometimes under the house. It's always pea gravel mix so we can use a 2" hose. I've never once had a project where we could drive a concrete truck around it.
