I use vinegar to clean grout haze sometimes, and I know that it will pull grout for a few days.

Grout should be allowed to cure for 72 hours before it’s sealed, so it’s quite possible that they used a chemical capable of smearing it after 24 hours

I would try a diluted vinegar solution to clean the haze, tell them to keep their damn hands off it for 3 days, and then seal it with a commercial grade silicone sealer.

Will go back tomorrow and check everything one more time. Will bring another tile installer with me for expertise. Not sure why customer started washing it? Good question for me to ask tomorrow. Thanks for all the input. Will post tomorrow after we take another look.

I'd double-check the directions, ask the tile installer (often the grout guy is the least experienced..maybe too much water?), and/or call Custom customer service and ask them.

It looks like a nice grout job, anyway. Somebody knew how to sponge finish properly.

Black grout is the trickiest to work with . Also takes longer to dry due to the fact that it has more dye in it. So that it keeps it’s true color. I recommend sealing it after because the color will fade after time, and you’ll end up having more of charcoal color of not sealed.

What type and brand of tile grout was used? If the grout is washing out a couple of hours after installation it is probably defective. This could happen if someone used old grout which was exposed to moisture. The easiest way to repair that is to try removing the grout, buy a good quality grout and do it again.
