Honestly, I was going down the road of the topcon until I realized they had an upgraded receiver and started looking closer at all brands receivers. With the receiver upgrade the base level topcon was getting closer to $1000 without any tripod or grade rod.

One thing that talked me off the Hilti cliff was commiting to upgrade my 3 axis line laser with the new Hilti pm40 g. They really did a great job with this tool and I’d Rather Save $1000 on the rotary to buy it.

I don't use the numbers on the rod. I use benchmarks and shoot from there. Sometimes I'll use my tape on the rod and make marks for varying elevations.

Put the reciever on the other side. It's designed to face away from you while looking at the back side, the face of the reciever is towards the laser.

I had that thought. Too bad we don’t have inches on both sides of the grade rod.

Cali, have you used this laser on its side to square your decks? Practiced it at home the other night and I’m going to give it a try soon, just a 12x28 deck.

I don't have your model. I have the Lar200 for horizontal leveling only.

I didn't go with anything else due to the fact you can't see the line outside without a reader or reciever.

But the biggest factor was I got a 1300 dollar laser for free. During deck days at my yard they give you 100 bucks in credit for every thousand you spend on Trex products during the month. I spent 15 thousand that month.

I know it is almost 2021 (in a few hours), but any new thoughts on rotary lasers? I think I'm pretty set on Stabila. I would like it be able do horizontal or vertical lines along with a plumb dot. I think that leaves me with two choices, the LAR 350 or the LAR 160 G. They both have similar kits (stand, receiver, pole, case etc.) The 160 G is about half the price ($850) of the 350 ($1700).

The big differences of the LAR 350 is possible shock resistance, dual slope/ 2-axis inclination (not sure what I would use that for), section mode, scan, and maybe standby. The LAR 160 G claims some impact resistance and has similar water/dust ratings, and also features a GREEN laser. Accuracy is the same, but the the working diameter is slightly smaller for the LAR 160 G (600 meter diameter) which is still more than I would need.

My intended use is leveling/plumbing/setting grade outdoors as well as helping to establish square. I might use the tilt function to set a slope for something like a fence, but that can be set manually on both.

I'm thinking the LAR 160-G will do everything I need, but am I missing something?

I noticed one other difference in the receiver. The LAR 350 looks to have a much better receiver in that it will read off the deviation from the reference height of the laser and display the numbers on the screen in addition to the typical arrows.

I have this one and it came with the reciever that gives you height measurement.

Thanks for the reco Mike. If I'm reading the specs correctly, you can't run a vertical line on the LAR 200.

Can someone tell me which one should I buy Topcon RL-HVS2 or Hilti PR30-HVS? I want to buy a decent one for indoor and outdoor works, but confusing and dilemma position. I can't afford for two brands. Please suggest me which one is the best longevity? Many thanks for your inputs.
