Miter saw for framing

All-

I've been following this forum for quite some time and have never posted as I am not a pro, but decided to break my silence for a tool question. What size miter saw are you using for framing? I am thinking a 10" sliding compound miter saw would be pretty versatile; I like that it can cross cut 2x12. That said, I have been looking at Rigid's dual compound 12" miter saw which can actually cross cut a 2x10. There a decent cost difference between the two. Can I get away with the 12" Rigid or am I going to regret not having the sliding function?

What are you guys using?

My primary use will be for framing an addition, building a deck and some trim work.

Back when I started as a helper, my boss proclaimed, "you can do everything with a skilsaw...you don't need no fancy extree stuff" (He was native Texan)

Fast forward 20 years.

I unload and use my 12" DeWalt DW708 SCMS

and DW744X everyday.

You will find that your speed is increased through cutting repetitions of anything you need. Blocking, headers, etc.

And tight angled precision cuts fit NICE (a word I use often - on a good day). For stairs and roof, I use a Makita 5007MG Sidewinder - is has an Always On LED light, so even in poor lighting you can see your line.

As far as SCMS, here's some shots of mine on various jobs.

The only time I use one is when we do the exterior trim. That goes with the framing most of the time. But for framing, what do you want to use a miter saw for?

I was also taught to use a skil saw for framing and a miter saw for trim work.
