Pulling ceiling fixtures, reveals that the boxes were installed extremely crooked, mounted up to a full 1/2" off on a side where the other is almost flush.
The new fixtures have a pair of those ultra-tiny pebble retainers at less than 1/8". If I try to lengthen their screws, they are at too far an off angle.
The old fixtures didn't have this problem since they had a central deep brass retainer.
I've noticed that washers for a build up aren't the best option - the wider ones won't fit due to the drywall edge and the smaller ones won't give a firm base for the mounting plate to sit on.
What else is out there that could be used besides a big hammer?
